I hate it when these organizations use the child’s voice to express their bigotry. And sure, maybe this child is a boy. Probably, even! But who the fuck’s to say they all are? The explicit message here is “don’t confuse our children by making them think they are something they’re not” but the implicit one is “transgendered people, transexual people, etc. don’t exist at all.”

PLEASE! Don’t encourage me to think about how sexist the world is! I’m having conservative beliefs pushed on me exclusively from a young age. Don’t teach me that traditional gender roles are bullshit, that LGBTQ* people exist and are human, and that all people should be treated with dignity and respect.

• Why am I forced to listen to only one perspective?
• My mommy doesn’t want me to know there are people in the world who are different from me, or me to realize that I might be one of those people and not be ashamed of it.
• Mr. McGunty, Mr. Hudak, and Ms. Horwath, please tell me you will continue to let LGBTQ youth feel safe at school, and you will teach cisgendered straight people that they are just as much a part of society as they are.

1. Ignore all evidence to the contrary

2. Claim it’s ‘corrupting’ or ‘hurting’ the children with no real explanation as to why.

3. Call your cause something like ‘Think of the children’
